Tom Sharpe is a former Full Professor and Graduate Program Director for the Applied Behavior Analysis with Board Certification Program at Spalding University; and with a long history of similar positions during his tenure at multiple Carnegie I Research Institutions, including The University of Nevada-Las Vegas, Purdue University, and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He draws from a wealth of varied professional experiences and activities in public and private school, athletic coaching, and university teaching settings; and from a long education, applied psychology, and social science research career in a variety of graduate programs at different Research extensive universities. Trained by many of the leading applied and experimental behavior analysts in the profession at Vanderbilt University and then West Virginia University, Tom has pursued academic work largely in the educational and therapeutic application of direct observation methodologies and in related computer-based tool development. As a function of his work in research and evaluation methods, he has authored over 150 refereed articles and book chapters in the respective areas of research methodology, professional preparation, interagency collaboration, and treatment development for therapeutic ends; has authored textbooks in the area of sequential behavior and behavior systems analysis; and is a regular contributor to the principles and practice of applied behavior analysis and systematic behavior change methods through conference and workshop presentations and a variety of consulting activities.


Tom has currently returned to primary practice with Positive Behavior Supports, Inc. (www.teampbs.com) in the South Florida area where he grew up. He also directs Educational Consulting, Inc., an international concern dedicated to the development and implementation of a variety of direct observation tools, methodology materials, and innovative treatment applications; and also providing a range of behavior and therapeutic services in the areas of mental health, social services, general education, and agency-based work. As a function of his ongoing work, Tom currently sits on many educational boards, most recent of which is Shining Futures, a not-for-profit entity building a school setting for underserved and developmentally challenged children, youth, and young adults. Tom’s approach is client centered, inductive, and thoroughly behavioral in practice; with emphasis on ongoing data supported methods to ensuring the primary objective of therapeutically improving the quality of the interpersonal, professional, and life skill domains of his clientele. Tom currently works with a range of clientele including young children, youth, young adults; and the adults and primary caregivers that provide ongoing services to those clientele.

John Koperwas has been a practicing software developer for the past 30 years working in Toronto, Canada providing leadership in real time software system development. After developing a variety of direct observation software systems designed to collect, record, and provide analysis of events in real time, John forged a research and development working relationship with Tom Sharpe for the purposes of forging a Company dedicated to those direct observation systems and with a web presence of www.skware.com. Known for their products under the BEST acronym (Behavior Evaluation Strategies and Taxonomies), this relationship culminated in the providing of direct observation and analysis tools over the past 25 years, and currently serves clients worldwide ranging from K-12 and special education programming, to teacher education programs in higher education, to  the growing behavior analysis and clinical psychology professional communities, to medical settings, to animal behavior research, and to organizational behavior management settings to name a few.

 

John is currently considered an innovative leader in the software development field, focusing on new, unique, and individualized applications for particular clientele with direct observation and analysis needs; and with a view toward use of the cloud and mobile devices as a platform for the immediate data storage, data analysis, and data reporting retrieval, in user friendly and informative ways to the benefit of the increased effectiveness and productivity of the Company’s growing client base.
